Introducing Lil' Big Jim

By Stephanie Mullane (MBA ‘02)

Everyone knows Big Jim, right? Nobody who went on the study tour to Europe will forget the constant "Make sure’s" ("Make sure you are on time", "Make sure you wear a tie", "Make sure you don’t stay up all night, cause an international incident and call me from jail"...) from the big guy. After the trip, it became one of the favorite topics to joke about. Even after I graduated, it remained one of the fondest memories of my graduate studies at UTD.

I have managed to stay in touch with UTD by becoming a member of the Project Management Advisory Council that meets once a month and advises the Director on current trends in the industry, makes recommendations on adjustments to the curriculum, etc. One of our top goals is to keep the alumni engaged with the program beyond graduation. We’ve launched the new PM Alumni website which provides information on alumni, Project Management news and classes offered in at UTD, as well as industry updates. While there was already the beginnings of an alumni web site for UTD, we are the first school to have its’ own dedicated site.

Now that the website is available we wanted a fun way to request updates from the alumni and what they’ve been doing since they finished their studies. That is when I got this idea for our own mascot, Lil’ Big Jim, which could be mailed to all of you. Everyone could provide their updates and take pictures with him on their travels and even their homes! Read the interesting story of Big Jim – guaranteed you’ll enjoy it...

PMF establishes cooperative program with University of Texas at Dallas to review PM books

PMForum.org has established a cooperative program with the Executive MBA program office at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) for the review of project management books. Under terms of the relationship, graduate students enrolled in UTD’s Project Management Program will read and review project management textbooks and other books provided by pmforum.org. Book reviews will then be published in the online Project Management World Today (PM World Today) e-Journal distributed each month to subscribers worldwide by pmforum.org.

According to James Joiner, Program Director for UTD’s Project Management Program, “we’ve had a lot of interest in this program already. We had five books offered and about 10 people wanted to review the books. It’s a good start, and suggests real interest in this opportunity. It will also be good for the students.”
